What is a Test section?
A Test section administers a built-in personality or strengths assessment to guests. OnArk includes three assessment types: Spiritual Gifts, DISC, and Enneagram. The questions, scoring, and results pages are all fully managed by OnArk — you simply select which test to include.
Guests answer all questions and receive their personalized results immediately. Their result type is saved and visible in the Guest detail view.
Setting up a Test section
- Open the Test section in the class builder.
- Click the settings icon (top left of the section) to open the section settings modal.
- Select the test type: DISC, Enneagram, or Spiritual Gifts.
- Save.
Once configured, the editor shows a live preview of what the test results page will look like, using randomly generated placeholder data.
The three assessments
Spiritual Gifts
What it measures: a guest's natural spiritual gifts as described in Scripture, such as teaching, encouragement, giving, leadership, or serving.
- Questions: 72 questions across 12 pages (6 per page)
- Scoring: each question contributes to one or more gift categories. Scores are totaled per gift out of a maximum of 12.
- Results: unlike DISC and Enneagram, Spiritual Gifts returns the top 3 gifts (not just one). This shows the guest their strongest spiritual gifts in ranked order.
- Use case: ideal for membership classes, volunteer placement, or discipleship tracks where you want to help guests discover how they're wired to serve.
DISC
What it measures: a behavioral personality profile describing how a person tends to act and communicate. The four DISC traits are:
- D (Dominance) — direct, results-oriented, decisive
- I (Influence) — enthusiastic, optimistic, collaborative
- S (Steadiness) — patient, consistent, supportive
- C (Conscientiousness) — analytical, detail-oriented, systematic
Specs:
- Questions: 20 questions across 4 pages (5 per page)
- Scoring: questions are rated on a 5-point scale (Strongly Disagree to Strongly Agree). Scores are calculated across all trait pair combinations and the highest-scoring combination is the result.
- Results: returns the guest's primary DISC type as a trait pair (e.g., "D/I" or "S/C") along with a description of that type.
- Use case: useful in leadership development, team building, or volunteer onboarding.
Enneagram
What it measures: a personality framework that identifies 9 core character types based on core motivations and fears.
- Questions: 45 questions across 9 pages (5 per page)
- Scoring: questions are rated on a 5-point scale. Scores are totaled per type out of 20 maximum. The type with the highest score is the result.
- Results: returns the guest's Enneagram type (Type 1 through Type 9) with a name and description.
- Use case: helpful for spiritual formation, counseling, or self-awareness classes.
Previewing the test in the builder
The class builder shows a preview of the assessment results using randomly generated placeholder data. Clicking through the preview form fires a preview event but does not save any data. This preview is for the admin only and does not affect guest data.
Linking tests to Ministries
If you set up Ministries in your church, you can link specific test result types to ministries. This allows the Ministry (team suggestion) form field to suggest relevant ministries to guests based on their test results. See Ministries for details.
Viewing test results
Test results are saved per guest per check-in and are visible in:
- Admin → Guests → [Guest Name] — shows the test result type for this guest
- Admin → Reports — reports can include test result data as a column
Common questions
Can I edit the test questions?
No. The questions, scoring logic, and result descriptions are managed entirely by OnArk and cannot be customized.
Can I add more than one test to a class?
Yes. You can add multiple Test sections to a class, each configured with a different (or the same) test type.
Can I use all three test types in the same class?
Yes. You could include a Spiritual Gifts section, a DISC section, and an Enneagram section all in the same class.
How long do assessments take for guests to complete?
- Spiritual Gifts: approximately 10–15 minutes (72 questions)
- DISC: approximately 3–5 minutes (20 questions)
- Enneagram: approximately 8–12 minutes (45 questions)
Can guests retake a test?
Not within the same check-in. A guest who starts a class again (a new check-in) will take the test again and their new result is recorded as a separate submission.
How do I send assessment results to a guest?
Guests can email themselves their results from the results screen when that option is enabled. You can also view their results in Admin → Guests.
Can OnArk push test results to Planning Center profiles?
Yes. Set up automations to save assessment results to PCO custom profile fields. See Automations for details.
Click the help bubble in the corner to open a ticket. Real humans on the other end — usually a same-day reply.
